Introduction to the Programme
Weekday mornings at the Football Academy are devoted to: skills training;
technical player development; fitness training and physical development; classroom based tactical seminars and examination of match footage under the direction of our team of FA qualified coaches.
Weekday afternoons at the Football Academy see students attending National Curriculum (GCSE/ A Level) academic classes with full-time students from Brooke House College. Students are issued with individual timetables after an interview with the Director of Studies during which their specific academic needs are identified. Brooke House College is a centre for all major UK examination boards and is inspected by OFSTED.
Weekends and evenings are devoted to homework sessions and social activities and excursions. Regular excursions take place to professional football matches, to major football stadiums for tours as well as to local and national places of interest.
The Academy Football X1 plays competitive weekly fixtures against academy sides and students will have the opportunity to take part in professional trial games.
Applications from students will be considered from students aged 14-19.
Students may attend the Academy on a Day or Boarding basis.
The Academy aims to recruit a mix of students from UK and overseas and has international links in West Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.
Training Schedules
Daily coaching sessions concentrate on every aspect of player development from improving individual technique to positional play and the contribution each player makes to the team.
Player fitness is monitored through individual training plans including a focus on diet and nutrition. Academy squad members’ individual programmes will also include gym work and swimming pool sessions.
The Academy’s physiotherapist ensures the physical condition of all Academy players and co-ordinates players’ rehabilitation in the event of injuries.
Accommodation and Amenities
Boarding students reside in single-S*X Brooke House College accommodation areas, with fellow Brooke House students, according to their age, in shared or single rooms.
Academy students (whether day or boarding) will take 3 meals per day in the college’s central Dining Room, where a balanced range of international and British cuisine is served.
The college can provide laundry facilities for boarding students.
All college accommodation areas offer “common room” facilities – including televisions and kitchenettes. The college also possesses a central recreational area offering a satellite television lounge and snooker, pool and table tennis equipment.
The college campus possesses a wireless internet capability covering all college buildings.
All students under the age of 18 receive 24 hour supervision from the college’s full-time residential team.
Where we are based
Brooke House College is situated in the small, safe typically English town of Market Harborough, in the county of Leicestershire. The college is one hour north of London by train and is well-served by the M1 and M6 motorways. The major cities of Leicester, Nottingham, Birmingham, Oxford and Cambridge are all within 1 hour’s drive from Market Harborough.
The Future
We understand that football is a competitive world. Whilst we hope that as many of our students as possible may secure professional contracts, and we will give them every opportunity and encouragement to do so, we understand that part of our role is to prepare students for the fact that they may not, and to prepare them for a successful career outside football. Therefore we hope that with the academic qualifications they obtain through the Academy, students may progress on to further and higher education, be the stars of their university or college side, and complete the academic grounding that will allow them to positively pursue a prestigious professional career in whatever area they so desire.
